Journey to the Temple

Tuesday night, our ward Relief Society traveled to the Ogden Temple grounds in the Boam's limos for a wonderful evening. Sister Moyes, former Temple Matron spoke to us on the importance of making the Temple an important part of our journey through this life on our way back to Heavenly Father. It was a terrific night spent with Mallorie and Kenzi as well as the amazing sisters in the Layton 37th Ward. We are so blessed!

Funny Charlie!

Charlie seems to think he's a lap dog and Bob's lap fits him just fine. This was the other night when we were relaxing on the deck. Charlie walked up, gave him HUGE kisses, and then climbed up, turned around, and sat down. Needless to say, they didn't fit the chair very well.

Bob found this Honda 90 on KSL.com and worked a screamin' deal on it! The deal with me was we'd buy it, fix it, and then sell it for a killing to put toward a new 4-wheeler. Ya...probably not gonna happen...the kids (Zack) loves it too much!

Mal said this was a blast from the past. We had one when they were little kids and she learned to ride that one. (My favorite...my twinners still like each other! YAY!!)

It took Zack FOREVER to get Kenzi on the bike. However, now she wants to ride it ALL THE TIME! He taught her how to drive it herself and she had a BLAST!! Even wanted "date night" over here to ride the 90! Silly!!

April 22, 2010--Sammi's Hump Day!!

The day I thought would NEVER come has come and gone...HUMP DAY!!!!!!!! April 22 was Sammi's half way mark. I wanted to do something fun for her without making her sad or homesick. I made signs and had people she loves hold them and took pictures. Then I had cards with the same signs on them and had everyone sign them. I made a pillowcase (my tradition) with a camel on it and sent the cute Missionary Camel story with it. Also sent a Webkinz camel that was adorable!

Sammi has had so many compliments on her backpack I made her. YAY!! (Except now everyone wants one!) So, I made one for her companion, Sister Lealaogata. She wanted yellow, black, and white...this is as close as I could get. Shipping it Tuesday; hope she likes it!

Missionary Moms Luncheon #2

Since before Sammi left on her mission, I have been a member of the LDS Missionary Moms email group for Florida missionaries. They are a FABULOUS group of women who offer support, encouragement, advice, laughs, shoulders to cry on, etc. We have become GREAT friends!! Well, Saturday, April 3, we had our second Florida Missionary Moms luncheon at Madeline's in South Jordan. This time, Debbie Blair, our wonderfully crazy ADHD leader/friend agreed to allow a committee to organize and plan the event. I was one of the moms from Ft. Lauderdale to help out. We went with a "Florida Flamingo" theme and really decorated up the place with that. The "gift" for all the moms this time was a pillowcase made from the missionary fabric. Marianne Wardle (another FtL mom) made 10 and I made about 30 pillowcases and then I made two lap quilts to be raffled off. It was a LOT of sewing and work but SOOOOO worth it!! We had a FABULOUS time laughing, crying, and bragging.

Debbie did this GREAT table decorations and then we slipped the pillowcases over the backs of the chairs. Another MM, Becky Olson, wrote a cute poem that we attached.

This ADORABLE frame was one of the "Show and Tells" we had there. I've got to figure out how to make these!!

We gathered donations for each mission to send to the Presidents. They can use the stuff to give to those Elders/Sisters who don't get much from home (can you imagine how sad that would be??).

Sister Joseph & Sister Denson

I sent the receiving blanket and pillowcases I made for Sister Joseph, wife of the Haitian Mission President, and her two boys and new baby girl. I sent them to Sammi so she could wrap them and write on the card. She gave them to President and Sister Hale who decided it would be better if Sammi was able to give them to her herself. Since today was transfers, she was at the Mission Home. I just received these pictures from President Hale with the message, "Fun to be with your daughter today! She's incredible!" Can't get much better than that!!

Phone Call from the Hales

Mallorie's boss, Drake Busath, took a new picture of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It's a BEAUTIFUL picture and we, as family members of an employee, and the Quorum of the Twelve can order them. There are VERY few of them...so we are VERY lucky!! Because President Hale is "friends" with so many of these wonderful men, we bought a picture and sent it to Sammi to give to him. He was thrilled!! Here's what she said in her email today:

"Sister Schulthies overheard President say that that picture is in one of the top 10 gifts he's ever received. They're like his best friends! We all joked as we were taking the picture that we were the only ones who gets a picture with all 12 Apostles! Haha They loved it!!! He was giddy like a little boy when I gave it to him. He was very touched. Thank you so much!"

Even better, President and Sister Hale called me on Thursday to personally thank me for it. He was THRILLED!! He said it was like having all his friends with him! I'm so glad he liked it! They also told us how wonderful Sammi is doing and how much they love her. So great to hear!!

The Literacy Promise Conference

Last Thursday and Friday, I had the opportunity to attend "The Literacy Promise Conference" at the Salt Palace. They brought in national speakers to talk about reading and writing in the classroom. Overall, it was "OK." Many of the speakers hadn't been in the classroom in a VERY long time and really didn't know what is possible and/or realistic in Utah. The highlight of the conference, for me, came on the final day. Brad Wilcox, a popular LDS speaker and author, was a presenter. He is also part of the Teacher Education Department at BYU. He also was the speaker at the Christmas Devotional in the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission!! He and President Hale were companions in Chile Del Mar many years ago. I had the chance to talk with him, show him Sister Denson's picture from the party, and visit with him about how wonderful the Hales are. He wanted Sammi to be in one of the pictures--silly guy! What a great opportunity!!
